CREATING "THE LANDSCAPES"
It was a joy to assist Richard with the process of building this book. The better part of a year was spent compiling the over 300 images of his paintings and preparing them for the press by scanning a series of 4x5 negatives and then digitally color correcting them to ensure they would print true to the original paintings. The book was printed on a Heidelberg press at Capital Offset in Concord, New Hampshire. It was a thrilling day to see the sheets role off the large press as the subtle tones and beautiful colors of Richard's paintings were reproduced onto the printed page.
Due to the large format of the book, the pages had to be hand sewn. Shown here is Richard holding up a piece of thread that was used for binding.
Here are a few of the pages awaiting the addition of their covers. To the right is Paul Parisi, President of the Acme Book Bindery, showing Richard how the book title is stamped onto the hardcovers with gold foil.
